Portable appliance testing reduces the risk of injury at work.

PAT Testing has emerged as a new growth area for electrical contractors recently because of legal work and electrical requirements.

Employers are putting forward existing employees like janitors so they can perform PAT testing themselves.

Shocks from electrical installations or equipment could cause falls from heights. Poorly installed or faulty appliances put employees in danger as they could cause fires and give electric shocks. Despite this the recommended PAT test methods and practises are not needed by law they are basically methods of best practise.

Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and the self employed to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to make sure that no danger results from the use of such equipment. Most companies implement a program of maintenance, inspection and testing of portable appliances.

Training courses are put in place so you can learn the methods for pat testing and the use of PAT Testing equipment. The result will be a student who can safely identify potential dangers and test safely.  Technical equipment that may be sensitivelike some IT systems will require additional training.

A comprehensive PAT testing training course will include details of legislation, electrical shock, fire and burn hazards, user checks, formal visual inspections, combined inspection and testing, construction of Class 1, II & III portable electrical appliances, fuse ratings, electrical plugs, testing computers, ICT / IT equipment, power tools, IEC cords & extension leads.
